1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading or using DNAVault (“the App”), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Not Medical Advice

DNAVault is an informational tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical, clinical, or diagnostic services.

Results generated by DNAVault — including haplogroup classifications, kinship estimates, health variant reports, and pharmacogenomic findings — are provided for personal educational and genealogical purposes only. They are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Do not make medical decisions based solely on results from DNAVault. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider or genetic counselor before acting on genetic information.

3. Accuracy and Limitations

Genetic analysis involves inherent uncertainty. Results depend on:

  • The quality and completeness of your uploaded raw data file
  • The accuracy of the reference databases used (which are maintained by third parties)
  • Statistical estimation methods that have known error rates

StarfleetBio makes no warranty, express or implied, as to the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any purpose of results produced by DNAVault.

4. Sensitive Genetic Information

Genetic data is uniquely sensitive. You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your device and DNAVault data secure
  • Deciding who you share your results with
  • Understanding that genetic information may have implications for you and your biological relatives

StarfleetBio strongly recommends enabling device encryption and a strong passcode.

5. Your Data

You own your genomic data. DNAVault stores it locally on your device only. You may delete it at any time by deleting the App or using the in-app deletion tools in Settings. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.

6. Third-Party Services

DNAVault may query public biomedical databases (ClinVar, BioMCP) to enrich variant results. These services are operated by third parties and governed by their own terms and privacy policies. StarfleetBio is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of third-party data sources.

7. Intellectual Property

DNAVault is proprietary software. The App may not be copied, modified, distributed, or reverse-engineered except as permitted by applicable law. DNAVault incorporates open-source reference databases including the Yleaf Y-DNA tree (MIT license), mitoLEAF mitochondrial database (Mozilla Public License 2.0), and an rsID coordinate bridge derived from NCBI dbSNP (public domain). Specific open-source component licenses are listed in the App under Settings → About.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. STARFLEETBIO DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE ERROR-FREE OR UNINTERRUPTED.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, STARFLEETBIO SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Hampshire, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version is always posted at this URL. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
